Exploring gender: the new side of Balletto di Roma

Balletto di Roma Tefer 03 ph.M.CarratoniAn interval of time in Ancient Greece, where six Gods are playing the Olympic Games, each one overcoming with his own personal and physical skill. It is Balletto di Roma new skin, uncovered and forged by the choreographer Itamar Serussi Sahar in Tefer, a new production for six male dancers, who ritually play their inner roots. Solo, deux a deux, trio, team, the stage turns into an arena, ideal theatre that can free man from a maddening martial repetitiveness. Among jumps in second position the dancers follow ancient conventions, almost materializing from a Greek vase with power, energy and weight. An infernal rite that casts its spell through its dynamic enchanting rhythm, while bodies bend their musicality, releasing their religious and martial spirit. A war game against prejudice that reveals the beauty of a body, the humanity of a heartbeat, that inborn divinity that Olympian Gods could have only been jealous of.

Balletto di Roma Fem 04 ph.M.CarratoniThe female side is not so able to free itself in the hands of the choreographer Paolo Mangiola. Fem springs from a more recent aesthetic, connected to ballet, where repetitiveness seems mechanical, forced, useless. Female grace comes to light only when stiff, boring port de bras leave place to helping hands that release bodies from those lonely patterns so hardly performed. The four dancers strongly differ in their physicality, but while beauty strikes at first – with long well-defined limbs – it is that wild single glimpse of personal freedom that conquers at last.
